L’âge d’homme, Michel Leiris’ Autobiographical masterpiece

This is my first edition of L’âge d’homme by Michel Leiris. This book had a profound impact on my conception of how autobiography might be written. Leiris writes as if the danger is so close to his truth, that he risks death like the matador. It’s a grandiose notion of truth and authenticity. However it’s a powerful narrative of his early years.

Sartre, Les Mots. An autobiography

This book was first introduced to me by René Girard, as being one of the better autobiographies in the modern era. A bit unconventional, it treats Sartre’s first steps in literature as well as his childhood living with an overbearing grandfather.
